Welcome to my first Behind The Scenes video. I recorded a recent trip to the Isle of Skye, off the coast of Scotland. It is a beautiful part of the UK which has notoriously challenging weather.
I managed to capture a few images that I was happy with, despite the gail-force winds. I relied mainly on my 10-Stop ND filters (NiSi and B+W) to capture cloud and water movement. Overall I was happy with the results.
The feedback on this video on YouTube has been very good. So I plan to make more behind the scene videos. My next trips are down to Cornwall and France where I hope to talk more about the technical aspects of shooting.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the video.
Really enjoyed this! Not just your approach to planning / shooting but also great to see Skye in video format as well as stills. Big yes to more please! 🙂
Jimmy, THANK YOU for the video, Raya Pro and InstaMask! They have become invaluable in my post-processing workflow. My heritage is Scottish and have been to the Isle of Skye three times. It is an amazing place to photograph or just view. In fact, my wife and I honeymooned on Skye. Plan is to return next year to photograph. Please do more videos and for sharing your photographic insight.
Great video Jimmy..Really enjoyed it.
Beautiful work, Jimmy.. Would love to see more of these travel photography videos from you! Hope you can make it a regular thing. 🙂
Jimmy, it’s always a pleasure for me to look at your videos.
Great first video Jimmy, Looking forward to many more!
Very Nice video. Quite Informative. Would love to see you share how you shoot images, how you compose and why you compose. Also, would love to get more insight into which filter you use and why and when you use them. Probably separate topics but. Would find the very informative.
Jimmy, I enjoyed the video a lot. Keep them coming! Any of the things you mentioned at the end would be interesting. Your video tutorials are always packed with useful tips and to the point, not a second of your viewers’ time wasted. Thumbs up!
Always informative ! Thank you ! Maybe some tips on how you expose for foreground and sky to compose a well balance picture with the help of luminosity masks 🙂
Well done Jimmy, please keep’em coming 🙂
Thanks Jimmy, that was great!
Three for three Jimmy – entertaining, enjoyable and informative. I enjoy seeing this side of your photography journey. Please keep them coming. Oh yeah – thanks for Raya Pro, Instamask and your exposure blending tutorial. You’ve really helped me move the dial on photography.
Awesome Job, Jimmie! This is a seldom explored angle of the photographer’s gestault, exactly what I want to know. It blew me away to learn you worked 4 weeks for 1 image at another time. I’ll be complaining less and getting off the couch more for the “what could be” moments. Thank you for your work: always clear, exact and accessible.
Awesome video – really shows your dedication to capture some of these pictures.
Thanks Jimmy. Agreed, three for three! Let’s have some more of these, and maybe just keep the processed images up on screen for a few more seconds in the video.
Most enjoyable and informative, looking forward to more
Hi Jimmy
Thanks for the video. You certainly obtained some lovely shots. My wife and I were in that area a while back 2004. We drove to the step off for the Isle of Skye. No accommodation so spent the night in the car near Fort William. I got some reasonable shots of misty hills and felt sad at the memorial for the followers of Bonny Prince Charlie.

P.S Sorry about your Australian trip. Everyone knows we don’t have bad weather here, the sun shines 24 hours a day.
Great stuff Jimmy
I think those 3 pictures are great!
Great video Jimmy, more please. As a constructive criticism can we see more about what equipment/lens/settings you used? I note when you were packing what looked like a monster 150mm filter holder?
As you say the wind is nearly always a problem; there in April and could not use my tripod other than set up 6 inch off the ground!
Great, love the different elements such as time lapse and aerial shots, plus your finished shots.
You let me be there! Thanks a lot. I´ll be waiting for more
Loved the video, Jimmy. More of them p!ease.
Awesome video, Jimmy – keep up the great work! I’d love to see more.
What a pleasure listening to your comment and remembering having been there many years ago when digital photography was just a dream. Very nice video mixing travel, trials, details on workflow and hopefully beautiful results! I’m waiting the following video Jimmy 🙂 Best regards from France!
Thank you! We last visited Skye in 1985. While I got some photos, they were slides that have discolored over the years. I hope to return, take a chance on the weather, and capture some fresh digital images.
Excellent video Jimmy. Looking forward to seeing many more. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic video Jimmy. Keep them coming

I met you at Out of Chicago last year. I’m from Texas, and I bought Raya Pro. Great stuff. I’d love to see more videos of how you photograph Scottish Castles and the highlands. We’ve got a trip there, maybe next year for that purpose. Keep it up!

Hi Jimmy,
I did enjoy the video. I have been on Skye but not for a photo shoot so it is a place I really want to go. I have learned so much from your tutorials so yes lets see more.
It is always nice to hear your smilin voice Jimmy! I love your demeanor, your delivery or whatever you want to call it and your accent. Your work is beautiful. I have always envied your results. I often learn something too. Seeing you perform is a nice change for the good. You are breathing kind of hard! This makes it clear to me that you work hard to get so lucky. Good little workout for you. Thanks for all.
Great stuff Jimmy!! Love to see more of your behind the scenes adventures! Keep them coming.
Thanks for the video, very informative !
